10 Aug Things to make you Fat!
Tea, Biscuits, Chocolate and lots of winter rain …
Winter is the perfect time of year to indulge in a little comfort eating because surely we need those extra kgs to survive the long winter haul (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)
Over the past few weeks, we have received some pretty enticing care packages at VictorsFood HQ and the only way to do them justice has been to dive in headfirst. So without further ado, here’s what we thought of these special treats …
Harvest Kitchen Soft Centres
Ohhh yuuum. These choc chip cookies have gooey chocolate centres which gadd a touch of luxury and surprise to the whole Cookie Monster experience. They are rich and creamy and super sweet. We agree on a two cookie daily limit so we can stretch them out to last the week.
Serving suggestion: Crumble them into good quality vanilla icrecream for an easy twist on cookies and cream.
$3.69 per 250g packs. Available in all leading supermarkets.
Vital Organic Rooibos Tea
The arrival of a packet of South African red bush tea aka ‘rooibos’ starts what can only be described as an addiction spree in our office. Black and green tea is replaced with red tea. It’s hard to describe the exact thing that has got us hooked. It’s not the caffeine as this is naturally caffeine-free. The flavour and colour is not dissimilar to black tea but there is just something about this tea that makes you feel better … perhaps a little African magic?
Serving suggestion: Add honey and lemon to rooibos tea for a natural cold buster
$3.99 for pack of 50 tea bags. Vital Organic Rooibos Tea is available in Coles, Woolworths and health food stores – www.rooibos.net.au
Cocolo Organic Fairtrade Chocolate
When a package shows up in the post containing six blocks of chocolate, you can imagine the reaction. Rapture, delight and we’re ashamed to admit, a bit of a feeding frenzy. Available in dark, milk and white with plain, almond, mint and orange flavours, you’re sure to find your perfect palate match. The clear favourites (judging by the empty wrappers) were the white with almonds and the plain milk. This chocolate has a slightly earthy flavour and is noticeably less sweet than your average chocolate bar. We liked it. We liked it a lot.
Serving suggestion: Grate the dark orange chocolate over chocolate mousse to give it a bit of citrusy zing
RRP for the plain varieties is $5.50, almond bars retail for $6.50. Cocolo is stocked in health food stores, organic stores and independent supermarkets. www.cocolo.com.au
Bondi Chai
The warm spice of a creamy chai is the perfect antidote to a dull, grey afternoon and the upside is that there are now two flavours. Gold Medal Award winning Bondi Chai has brought out a new range that includes Vanilla Honey and Club Cinnamon. All you have to do is combine 2 tsp of Bondi Chai powder with 180ml of milk and microwave or steam until hot. It really is too easy. No messy tea leaves and spices, no boiling milk on the stove. It tastes the way chai is supposed to taste but without any of the inconvenient mucking around. One note; it is already sweetened so don’t go crazy with the honey or sugar.
Serving suggestion: Make an iced version and add a dash of Amaretto or Frangelico for a delicious after dinner cocktail
RRP $12. To find a stockist near you, visit www.bondichai.com.au/buy.htm
